Mum’s fried meatballs with mint dip

Prepare the tastiest meatballs like Mum used to make and accompany them with a refreshing mint dip to really bring out the flavour!

Ingredients

  • 500 g minced veal
  • 500 g minced pork
  • 1 egg
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 slices day-old bread (crust removed) soaked in water and squeezed dry
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup fresh mint, finely chopped or 1 tsp dried mint
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • Olive oil for frying
  • 1 level tsp salt
  • 1 level tsp pepper
  • 250g strained MEVGAL yogurt
  • ½ cup finely chopped mint
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • Salt
  • Instructions

  • Put the minced meat together with all the other ingredients for the meatballs in a bowl.
  • Knead well, with wet hands, for several minutes until all the ingredients are evenly combined.
  • Leave the mixture to rest in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
  • With wet hands, shape into balls of uniform size, so that they all cook at the same time.
  • Heat the olive oil in a frying pan until smoking hot then add the meatballs. Cook turning until lightly browned all over.
  • Serve hot accompanied by the mint dip.
